Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback), her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. Perry did not decide to explore acting as a profession until she reached adulthood because her parents were afraid of the negative effects that stress could be a cause of. Perry shy and shy to be a part of the theater in her high school, started to act in theater classes at Northwestern University because she wanted to make new acquaintances. When she graduated, Perry moved to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought Perry back home to California which is where she discovered acting work. In 2013 she performed in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry was a part of nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017, she was a part-time character in ABC's political thriller Scandal in which her father was the main character. The same year, she played a young version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a younger version. Despite her family link to the character, she was offered the role via an audition.
